A Doctor Who Chose Patients Over Prestige

Dr. Michael Lea didn't take the easy path.

Upon graduating from one of the world's most respected chiropractic colleges, he was offered a faculty position at Logan University to teach radiology to the next generation of doctors. He turned it down — because his calling was in the clinic, not the classroom.

That decision led him back to Indianapolis, where he founded Crossroads Brain & Spine in 2022 and quickly became central Indiana's leading authority on non-surgical disc restoration.

Dr. Lea's path to non-surgical care is personal. As a three-sport high school athlete, he suffered a career-ending injury that redirected his life toward a singular mission: helping others avoid the addictive drugs, risky injections, and invasive spine surgeries.

He began his academic journey at the University of Indianapolis, graduating with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. He then earned his Clinical Exercise Physiologist credential through the American College of Sports Medicine — a foundation in human performance and injury rehabilitation that shapes his clinical thinking to this day.

He completed his doctoral training at Logan University in St. Louis — one of the most prestigious chiropractic institutions in the world — where his academic excellence earned him a role as a radiology tutor. During his training, he traveled the country studying under the most renowned chiropractors in the field, developing a deep fascination with how spinal care positively affects neurological function.

Credentials That Set Him Apart

Dr. Lea holds qualifications that place him in rare company:

  • National Certification in Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression — one of the youngest doctors in America to earn this distinction
  • Certified in Spinal Decompression Research — a distinction held by very few clinicians in the country
  • Founding Member, American Spinal Decompression Society — an organization currently funding active spinal decompression research at the University of South Florida
  • HarvardX Certificate in Neuroscience
  • Pursuing a Diplomate in Functional Neurology through the Carrick Institute — the world's leading program for chiropractic neurologists
  • Co-author of the only published textbook on infrared thermography in chiropractic practice
  • Upper Cervical Spinal Care specialist — one of only a few hundred doctors worldwide trained in this precise, evidence-based technique

Dr. Lea’s passion for understanding the neurological mechanism of how the nervous system works led him to co-author the only textbook regarding infrared thermography as it relates to the practice of Chiropractic. He is just one of just several hundred doctors in the world that practice Upper Cervical Chiropractic. His training is a very specific and scientific approach to providing conservative spine care to patients.

The Architect of the Lea Disc Method
Dr. Lea's clinical expertise is the foundation of the Lea Disc Method — his proprietary approach to non-surgical disc restoration that powers the Disc Restoration Protocol at Crossroads Brain & Spine. Where most decompression clinics offer a single tool, Dr. Lea built a complete system: combining FDA-cleared DRX-9000 spinal decompression, regenerative therapy, Class IV laser, neurologic restoration, and functional rehabilitation into one integrated protocol.
The result is the STRONG-Rx Healing Framework — a 6-phase non-surgical system that doesn't just relieve pain, it restores the disc, rebuilds function, and protects long-term spinal health.

What Drives Him

"I was told there was nothing that could be done for my injury. I refused to accept that answer — and I refuse to accept it for my patients. There is almost always another option before surgery."
